J. D. Carlson
A meteorologist by training, Dr. Carlson provides research and extension support for programs associated with the Oklahoma Mesonet, the state’s automated weather station network. In particular, his expertise includes boundary-layer meteorology, agricultural and fire meteorology, and atmospheric dispersion. His major efforts over the past number of years have centered in developing “OK-FIRE”, a weather-based system for wildland fire management in Oklahoma, and in training wildland fire managers on the use of OK-FIRE with respect to both wildfire and prescribed fire. With a partial extension appointment, he also serves as the state extension specialist in agricultural and fire meteorology.
